BOSTON JR. SWAMP RATS
ANNOUNCE TRYOUTS
U6, U8, & U10 TEAMS
EVALUATIONS SET FOR TUESDAY APRIL 7TH
U12, U14, & U16 TEAMS TO BE CHOSEN THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY APRIL 14TH
The Boston Jr. Swamp
Rats inline hockey organization have announced their tryout dates for the
upcoming 2009 tournament season. Open tryouts will be held at Holbrook
Sports Center which is located at 616 South St. in Holbrook, MA on Tuesday
April 7, 2009 from 5:00 'till 7:00 PM.
Players are asked to arrive early to expedite
the registration process, ensuring that the players can take the floor at
5:00 PM sharp. Cost for the tryout will be $20 per player, with a portion
of the proceeds to be invested back into the teams to help defray some of
the costs associated with running the operations.
Players of all skill levels are urged to
attend and will be placed on a team that will pit them against similarly
skilled players from other organizations around the country. This
particular tryout is only for players who are 10 years of age or younger.
A similar tryout for the organization's U12, U14 & U16 teams will be held
one week later on Tuesday April 14, 2009 also beginning at 5:00 PM and
ending at 7:00 PM.
The Boston Jr. Swamp Rats are slated to play in tournaments throughout the
Northeast region of the United States this year with the possibility of
the teams travelling to other national tournaments held in various cities
around the country and even in Canada. "We are hoping that this will be a
springboard for the organization to be able to enter the teams in one of
the elite level travel leagues next year" commented Jr. Swamp Rats Program
Director Ruppy Hailey. "The sharp spike in the overall interest of this
sport in this area has forced us to expand on the youth program this year
and we hope to use it as a foundation for the future."
"The kids who make the jump from ice to inline get hooked on this sport
the moment they hit the floor" added Hailey. "They really seem to enjoy
the wide open style of play and I often hear them asking their parents
when is the next time that they will be playing inline hockey again as
they leave the rink. It's this kind of excitement that has prompted us to
take our youth program to the next level."
Hailey, who is also one of the owners of the Holbrook Sports Center, wants
everyone to know that the option to join a travelling team at the rink is
not the only way for kids to get involved in the sport of inline hockey.
"In addition to the Jr. Swamp Rats program, we plan on offering a Learn to
Skate program for children who are trying out inline skating for the first
time as well as offering an Introduction to Inline Hockey Clinic which
will be geared toward teaching the sport to kids who are steady on their
skates but have yet to play any organized hockey." Hailey also noted that
many players from the current Boston Swamp Rats and Holbrook Swamp Donkeys
teams that participate in the American Inline Hockey League have agreed to
either coach some of the youth teams or at least offer their services for
the clinics.
Michael Hunt, another owner in the HSC ownership group, will also be
highly inolved in further enhancing the youth inline hockey program at
Holbrook Sports Center. Hunt, a veteran of many Pro level championship
teams as well as a member of Team Canada Inline and Co-Captain of the
Boston Swamp Rats, who also owns and operates One 5 Hockey Clinics, will
be coaching the 14 & Under Jr. Swamp Rats.
