YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL TO RETURN SPRING '09

Holbrook Sports Center has
regretfully announced that, due to numerous acts of vandalism which occurred
over the summer, the field will unfortunately not be ready in time for the fall
'09 youth flag football season. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may
have caused, but the staff at HSC has vowed to have the field and facility ready
to go and better than ever in anticipation of a tremendous Spring '09 season.
"We've had multiple setbacks regarding the condition of the playing surface as
well as some unsightly and graphic images spray painted on the field as well as
around the exterior of the facility" remarked Holbrook Sports Center co-owner
and general manager Ruppy Hailey. "In response to the vandalism, we have been
forced to install a state of the art video surveillance system both inside and
outside of the facility" added Hailey. "Additionally, the Holbrook Police
Department has promised to step up their patrols in the area in hopes of
catching those responsible for the damage. We are currently installing some
fencing around the property that will make the back field less accessible to
trespassers. We have our fingers crossed that the steps that we have taken will
be enough to deter any future acts of vandalism."
The staff at HSC fully realizes the negative impact that is a result of the
vandalism. "The sad reality is that it's the kids who suffer the most in a
situation like this," continued Hailey. "Our NFL Youth Flag
Football program has been growing for a few years and everyone involved seems to
thoroughly enjoy it. The parents often times like it as much as the kids, as
many of them volunteer to coach and help out in any way that they can. It’s
truly a shame that they won't be playing this fall."
Holbrook Sports Center would like the parents and children of Holbrook and its
surrounding communities to know that plans are already in motion to make the
spring 2009 season it's best ever. "There are plans to update the playing field
along with repainting the boundary markers" said co-owner Michael Hunt. "In
addition, we will be adding player’s benches and a portable electronic
scoreboard to enhance the experience of both the players and their parents. Our
final stages of the plans to revitalize the field will be to add some attractive
landscaping measures, just to make things a little more pleasant for our
customers while they are visiting the facility."
The overall improvements to the league do not end there. There will also be
added features to the on field product as well. "We want to have our opening
weekend be something special for the kids" said Hailey. A preseason kick off
jamboree will be planned where all of the teams will play a number of mini games
in preparation for the regular season. There will also be scheduled practice
times available for all teams."
Registration for the Holbrook Sports Center's NFL Youth Flag Football League
will be announced beginning in March 2009, with an expected kick-off date in
early-mid April. For more information, please visit the Holbrook Sports Center
