Inline Ball Hockey Tournament Saturday 2/27/10 Holbrook Sports Center will be conducting an inline ball hockey tournament on Saturday February 27th beginning at 3:00 PM. The format and number of guaranteed games will be determined by the amount of participating teams, but early plans call for each team to play 3 preliminary round games with a single elimination playoff round to follow. Potentially, each game will consist of (2) 12 minute running time games. Minor penalties will result in a penalty shot. Each team will be awarded 1 timeout per game that can only be used during regulation and not during overtime. The clock will only stop as the result of a timeout, during a penalty shot, and if the goal diffferential is 2 goals or less during the final 2 minutes of regulation. Teams deemed to be guilty of delaying the game by shooting the ball away from the referee will be issued a delay of game penalty and the opposing team will be awaded a penalty shot. Fighting is prohibited! Any players who engage in a fight will be immediately ejected from the tournament. NO EXCEPTIONS! The entry fee for this tournament will be $325.00 and will include all related costs including floor time, referee fees, scorekeeper fees, and stadium announcer fees. A $100.00 non refundable deposit must be submitted no later than Wednesday 2/24/10 @ 8:00 PM for your team to be added to the schedule. There will be 2 divisions for teams to enter in this tournament. The "King of the Hill" division is open to any and all teams with no roster restrictions. This division is geared toward the advanced level teams and players who have been competitive in the top divisions of house league play. This division will be sure to attract some of the best ball hockeys teams in the Greater Boston area, so teams are urged to put together the best team possible. The number of teams accepted to this division will be limited, so captains should register their teams ASAP to ensure their participation in the area's premier ball hockey tournament. Individuals who wish to be included in this division but do not have a team should contact HSC with the possibility that they could be added to an existing team looking to add a player. The "Recreational" division is also open to any teams looking to participate. There will however be roster restrictions in place to prohibit top tier players from entering this tournament. The tournament director will review and approve all rosters for each and every team who wish to enter the "Recreational" division. This division is geared toward the recreational level teams and players who do not possess the overall skill level to compete in the "King of the Hill" division. Team rosters must be submitted along with the $100.00 deposit. All players must receive approval from the tournament director to compete in this division. NO EXCEPTIONS! Individuals who wish to be included in this division but do not have a team should contact HSC with the possibility that they could be added to an existing team looking to add a player. The winning team in each division will receive a team trophy and t-shirts for each team member. The runners-up in each division will receive a team trophy and individual medals. Awards will also be presented to the Most Valuable Player in each division.
To register your team or
if you have any questions regarding the tournament,
Muckers Slip on Some Black Ice In Title Game Black Ice and the Muckers were the top 2 seeds going into the playoff round of last week's Bronze Tournament, so it was only fitting that those same 2 teams should meet in the Championship Game as Friday evening turned to Saturday morning. The game was a close one but the "Over the Hill Gang" used a pair of late goals to put this game away. Congratulations goes out to Black Ice captain Phil Riegalhaupt, Muckers captain Steve Fabiano, and their respective teams as they both played some impressive hockey throughout the night to get to the title matchup. Individual awards were also handed out on this cold January evening. The Most Valuable Player trophy was presented to Black Ice forward Ted Sjostedt. Ted was not only an offensive force for Black Ice but he also shined in the defensive zone as well. Steve Monteiro of the Muckers was named the tournament's Most Valuable Defenseman. Stevie was equally as effective whether he was carrying the puck into the attack zone or thwarting his opponents scoring chances in his own end of the floor. The Most Valuable Goalie award was presented to Black Ice's John Wright. John went on to make all of the stops that he was supposed to as well as a bunch that he had no right making. ESPN could have filled up a whole week's worth of top 10 plays with some of the saves that John made in the title game alone. The other teams who participated in the tournament were semi-finalists Men IN Motion and the Bay State Bulldogs in addition to Agent Orange and the Budmen. Holbrook Sports Center would like to thank all of the teams for their support and we are already planning our next Bronze Division Tournament for early Spring.
